Theatre Under the Stars
July 28, 2009 by admin
This summer Theatre Under the Stars played two of Amy and my favorite musicals, Annie and Thoroughly Modern Millie. We grew up reenacting Annie with our friend Dusty, so we thought it was a great time for a reunion! We were hoping that they would need some backup dancers, as the three of us were ready to go!! haha Amy and I saw Thoroughly Modern Millie first in New York. We did not know what it was about but were drawn to the posters and that it was set in the 1920’s. The wonderful Delta Burke played the villain in the New York version and we were sold on this musical.
If you have never been to this fantastic venue, we definitely recommend it! Located in Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl (near the Aquarium) it is an outdoor theatre. We saw both musicals and had great evenings out! Both casts did a fantastic job and entertained everyone. There is reserved seating as well as general seating, but our favorite is to bring a blanket and picnic and sit on the grass to watch the show. When you do go, there are two things two watch out for……
1.The mosquitoes….they are abundant, so bring your bug spray!
2. The fireflies/lightning bugs…we never knew that we had these here in Vancouver. Once the sun goes down, you can see them light up the night sky over the crowd. It was so exciting to us to see these!
Hopefully you will be able to make it down there this year or in the years to come!

I still think we could have done just as good a job as those kids! Did you guys see more fireflies during “Thoroughly Modern Millie”? It was a great night, thanks again!
